Nicole first discovered romance novels hidden in her grandmother’s closet. Convinced that hidden books must be better, Nicole greedily read them. It was only natural she should start writing them (but now not so secretly).
Much thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and Harlequin Historical for sending me a copy for review and for inviting me to be a part of this tour. This review is voluntary and opinions are fully my own. Also, all quotes are taken from the ARC and may or may not appear in the final published copy.
Intrigue, Adventure, and Ravishing Romance
I came into this book with zero expectations and I left with a precious experience that brought me to the past.
The Maiden and the Mercenary revolves around the said characters and their journey in the midst of each of their own agendas and attraction/love getting in the way. This book touches on the forbidden romance theme, with secretive moments that deliver passion and intense romantic scenes.
Admittedly, it took me some time to get into the book, as I have to immerse myself in this kind of world. Plus, even the character names are hard to get used to (I don’t even know how to pronounce them!!)
There’s no denying, though, that the author writes beautifully. The scenes are well thought of and action-filled. The book delivered more than a romance, it has betrayal and mystery and lies and thrill!
Overall, it was a good read. It was a good introduction to Nicola Locke’s work and I’m interested to see her other titles.
