Hey, (mood) readers!
I’m back again with another bookish business review. This one is technically not a business. A Bookstagram mutual of mine, @thehogsmeadereader, has decided to unhaul some of her books. But, as a little twist, she has decided to make it Blind Date with a Book style. I’ve seen it in other shops, so I was excited to try it!
For this experience, I spent Php 199 per book, which is roughly 4 US dollars. Then, I paid Php 100 or 2 dollars for shipping.
The first one looked like this:
Any guesses?
The book was:
No Love Allowed by Kate Evangelista
It’s all fun and parties until someone falls in love in this modern fairy tale from author Kate Evangelista.
Caleb desperately needs a fake girlfriend. Either he attends a series of parties for his father’s law firm with a pretty girl on his arm, or he gets shipped off to Yale to start a future he’s not ready for and isn’t sure he wants. And sadly, the last unattached girl in his social circle has just made the grievous mistake of falling in love with him. Fortunately, Didi, recently fired waitress and aspiring painter, is open to new experiences. As the summer ticks by in a whirl of lavish parties, there’s only one rule: They must not fall in love!
The second book look liked this:
Any guesses?
The book was:
The Fall of Butterflies by Andrea Portes
Willa Parker, 646th and least-popular resident of What Cheer, Iowa, is headed east to start a new life. Did she choose this life? No, because that would be too easy—and nothing in Willa’s life is easy. It’s her famous genius mother’s idea to send her to ultra-expensive, ultra-exclusive Pembroke Prep, and Willa has no intention of fitting in. But when she meets peculiar, glittering Remy Taft, the richest, most mysterious girl on campus, she starts to see a foothold in this foreign world—a place where she could maybe, possibly, sort of fit in. When Willa looks at Remy, she sees a girl who has everything. But for Remy, having everything comes at a price. And as she spirals out of control, Willa can feel Remy spinning right out of her grasp.
Bonus! A free ARC!
Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake
When kingdom come, there will be one.
In every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born—three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions.
But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose…it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins.
The last queen standing gets the crown.
My Thoughts
There’s something about the mystery and surprise brought about by a blind date with the book! I’m lucky that I don’t have both of the titles and they both sound good. Both copies are even signed by their authors! So, that’s a great bonus!
Giving away a free ARC was also a touching move of the seller. That’s so sweet of her!
If you’re from the Philippines, @thehogsmeadereader still has a few blind dates available! Check out her bookstagram highlights.
I enjoyed my bookish blind dates and I think I got so much value for the money that I had paid. I would really love to get more blind date experiences like this.
Thanks for the tag! I would absolutely do this! 🙂
