Two Can Keep A Secret is my second Karen McManus novel. I remember loving her first, One Of Us Is Lying (Read my review here.)
This story started with twins Ellory and Ezra moving to a new town, Echo Ridge, to be under the care of their grandmother after their mother, former Echo Ridge homecoming queen, Sadie, was sent to rehab.
Unfortunately, Echo Ridge is a town filled many secrets and shady unsolved crimes.
This leads us to our other narrator, Malcolm. Malcolm is the brother of Echo Ridge’s former favorite boy turned unofficial major crime suspect, Declan. Five years ago, Declan’s girlfriend, Lacey, was found dead, and of course, many people suspect Declan to be the culprit.
This novel is filled with many twists and turns, it is kinda multi-dimensional and has so many side characters and side plots that you’ll go crazy keeping track.
I read this as an audiobook, and I had a love/hate relationship with having to remember everything and not going back. The suspense building was amazing and my guesses of whodunnit kept changing every few chapters.
Ellery, who was supposed to be a true crime enthusiast, make the worst theories and also make the worst decisions, but I choose to forgive all that, because it made a great story, after all.
There are so many things that I enjoyed while reading this novel, but I like to end with how much the plot twist blew me away. The possibility of the plotline and the culprit did not cross my mind, and for that, I declare this read a definite success.
Excited to read more.
