If Only is my first read from Melanie Murphy, who is a Youtuber/Online Personality I am not familiar with. I had high hopes with this book because of the cutesy cover and the intriguing blurb.
Unfortunately, I can some up my reading experience in this four words: I didn’t like it.
The story of a 30 year old newly single woman with an opportunity to answer her life’s “what if”s and “if only”s sounded good. Sadly, I did not feel the promised humor and lightness. I don’t know if it’s a cultural divide or I just find the characters, especially the main one, quite boring.
Even the execution of the “if only”s were served a little weak. Which was sad because it is the books main premise.
I loved the 80s song recommendations, though. I’m a 90s baby through and through, but I always go crazy for the music of the 80s.
I guess, all in all, this was not bad. It just was not for me, and I can see that some GR reviewers loved this. Maybe, I’ll love the next one?
