The Rose Society by Marie Lu
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Review originally published on Goodreads – Oct. 30, 2018.
“I pledge myself to the Rose Society until the end of my days, to use my eyes to see all that happens, my tongue to woo other to our side, my ears to hear every secret, my hands to crush my enemies. I will do everything in my power to destroy all who stand in my way.”
Oh, Adelina. Oh, Marie Lu.
I cannot believe it technically took me 15 days to finish this one.. Well, I was sick for a week so there’s that. I was only able to pick up this book and read for a time.. because it was just so dark.
I have to admit I am usually just a sucker for romance, and fantasy not so much. So, imagine how stressful this dark novel was for me
This is one of the darkest novels I have ever read. Wow.
It is not uncommon for us to dive into the mind of a villain/antihero/criminal. But I think it’s quite uncommon in the YA world. [Recommend me more if you know some!]
There were some times when I had to stop reading because the mind of Adelina is quite terrifying for me. And that’s a huge compliment to you, Ms. Marie Lu. You write so beautifully, I get extremely absorbed and involved.
There’s not much to say that will not spoil the series. So I guess, the best advice is just to go and read this one!
Maybe only this, too: Magianoooo. You make me swoon. 😉
