The Kiss Quotient (The Kiss Quotient, #1)The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Review originally published on Goodreads – August 10, 2018.

What makes a book great? For me, regardless of all the technicalities, a great book would make you “feel” things. I felt the connection with both leads. I laughed with them and symphatized with them. I felt like I have two new friends.

I don’t want just a night or a week or a month with you. I want you all the time. I like you better than calculus, and math is the only thing that unites the universe.”

I believe I would have breezed through reading this. It’s the one-sitting read type (for me) if my anxiety didn’t get the best of me. Work struggles and life plans made me lose all my sleep for 2 days/nights.

Anyway, the main things I love this book:
– This is an #OwnVoices type of book in terms of the autism spectrum. I have to admit it’s the first time I heard about Asperger’s and I like how the book represented it.
– Half Asian MALE lead. This does not happen at all. Usually females are written as Asian. And Vietnamese, wow. I’ve never read Vietnam being represented. (Again, my opinion. Please enlighten me.) I am Asian. Filipino, by the way. And I am so happy that parts of Vietnamese/Asian culture was beautifully described in this book.
– Reversed gender roles. For most stories, the males work in business and the females are the creatives.
Here, we have Stella, who works in an office. High salary, very professional, MATHEMATICS and economics is her world. And we have, Michael, who may be in between jobs at first, thus the escorting, is actually a designer. A brilliant FASHION designer.

I loved this dynamic in the story. It is really not something you see everyday.

“If you can’t stand being with a woman who’s more successful than you, then leave her alone. She’s better off without you. If you actually love her, then know the value of that love and make it a promise. That is the only thing she needs from you.”

☁ THE CRITERIA ☁

🌻 Blurb:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
You’ll read words in the blurb that you don’t really see in contemporary romance. And basically the reversed Pretty Woman concept is so good.
🌻 Hero:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I love him. I want to marry him. Looks? Like a KDrama star, does martial arts and has am eight pack. Swoon. Heart? As big as it can be. Left his dream to take care of his mom and watch over his family. He is very sexy and hot but the hottest thing is how he really values consent. I love it.
🌻 Heroine:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Stella is an endearing heroine. She is strong and stands up for herself. Very smart, established and financially independent. Beautiful and does not flaunt it too much.
🌻 Support Characters:⭐⭐⭐⭐
Their families both give a good dynamic. Especially Michael’s.
🌻 Writing Style:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
For a debut novel, it was very enjoyable to read. The hot scenes are really hot.
🌻 Character Development:⭐⭐⭐⭐
It was how I expected they would be. They made great choices at the end.
🌻 Romance:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A lot of steamy scenes. They are well written and I love their dialogue. The relationship building is also super cute. Perfect fluff. Perfect heat.
🌻 Pacing:⭐⭐⭐⭐
Fast paced. Ideal.
🌻 Ending:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I celebrate their individual successes. And I am a sucker for happy endings. I am super satisfied.
🌻 Page Turner:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
You’ll definitely breeze through reading this one.
🌻 Book Cover:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Initially, this one caught my eye, aside from everyone reading it. Very cute and very similar to what the story promises.
☁FINAL VERDICT: 4.72/5 Kissing STARS!!! rounded off to ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐☁
