“I’m going to kill a man. I’m going to steal the light from his eyes. I want to watch it go out. You aren’t supposed to answer violence with more violence but sometimes I think violence is the only answer.”
Hello to my first read of 2019! Also, my first audiobook ever!
Seldom do I pick out books that felt like so many emotions crawling inside me. At the end, I felt like someone to my heart and squeezed it.
This book shows the type of reality you wish never existed. But this one is so real. Stories like this are so vile and disgusting, you never want to imagine anyone going through this. I wasn’t aware when I chose this read that I will be reading about rape and pedophilia. I wish there was a warning because, to be quite frank, these are topics I choose to avoid.
Listening to the audiobook had so much power over me, but I could not stop. I was crying at times. I was itchy and anxious at times. I was cheering on a character for so long. I felt like I was Sadie. I was rooting so hard for her. I admire her strength and courage and I wish I was as strong as her. I really felt like she was my sister, or that I was her. That’s how great this one is. Couple in the fact that the audiobook felt like I was listening to a real podcast is so amazing. Wow.
I know, like everyone else, the ending was a bit disappointing. Sadie is the type of character who deserved better. I was so mad at the ending, I threw my phone (at the sofa, so it was safe) and it bounced a bit high from the impact.
I feel a bit speechless, still, to be fair. I do not know how to review this. Just that, Courtney Summers is a great storyteller. And this story is one that needed to be told.
