NERVE is a story about an online dare game. You can be a PLAYER, where you can win different prizes, or you can be a WATCHER, where you pay to watch the players or earn credits if you’re the one to capture the video.
There is actually a film based on this novel, starring Emma Roberts. Confession: I have actually watched the film and liked it so much before I read this book. Admittedly, I have no idea that this book existed, if not for a dear Goodreads friend (aka Leia Alvarez ) who read this a few days before.
Spoiler that is not much a spoiler: this book is NOTHING like the film. The only things similar are the character names and the game. In the film, you actually win money, while in here you win things you like based on the gamemaker’s analysis of your social media profile.
I am surprised to say this, but the film is actually waaaay better than the book. Because of that, honestly, my expectations were not met. Most of the dares here were sexual, while in the film the danger factor gradually increases.
Anyway, regardless, I still enjoyed reading this book. It is not a total waste of time. In fact, it’s a quick read and fast paced, too.
