“I give myself three more seconds to look at him, and it’s like another punch to the gut. He’s my person. He’s always been my person. My best friend, my confidant, probably the love of my life. And I’ve spent the last eleven years being angry and self-righteous. But at the end of the day, he tore a hole in us, and fate ripped it wide open.”

When you think about the duo Christina Lauren, you think fun. Lots of humor, sexy, witty and charming romance. This is not it. This book took me by surprise. Very different from the style I knew Christina Lauren wrote. But it still is very much beautiful. It was written so simply, but it’s the simplicity that made so many emotions come out. It’s raw, pure and sincere. It’s how a second chance romance deserves to be written.

This book is a type of a Then and Now read. Alternating timelines that I am not usually a fan of. But it’s how this story should have been written. It made it seem lighter, because there was a lot of heavy parts. It also gave you the anticipation to find out what broke them off in the first place.

And that’s what the only thing I disliked about this book comes in.. the reason for their initial break up. Elliot’s character was developed in a way that you know how devoted fully and faithful he was to Macy. So that part was a bit unbelievable to me. Out of character for Elliot. But then again, mistakes like that make the character the authors made seem more human and not too perfect.

Regardless, this book is worth the read. I stress, it’s very beautiful. Go grab it.
