“You were my tempest, my thunder cloud, my tree in the downpour. I loved all those things, and I loved you. Butnow? You’re a fucking drought. I thought that all the assholes drove German cars, but it turns out that pricks in Mustangs can still leave scars.”
My first book by Penelope Douglas and I am satisfied. Please kill me for not reading blurbs but heh, I like being surprised. Didn’t know it was gonna be a highschool story.
Tate, short for Tatum, is the heroine. Unique name. A victim of intense bullying by the whole highschool led by Jared. Jared, the handsome badboy, who never really did explain why he was being mean to Tate in the first place.
I used to love enemies-to-lovers novels. Finally, I’ve been brought back. But this book was really simple and cliche-ish. In this case, it still worked for me. My interest peaked at the 76% mark, there was the little plot twist and the answers to the mysteries.
Trigger Warning: Bullying, Sexual Assault, Dubious Consent, Descriptions of Domestic Abuse
☁ THE CRITERIA ☁
Tate’s point of view. Glimpse of neighbors who are bestfriends then enemies back srory.
Handsome badboy. Anger management issues. Lots of communication problems. Very mysterious. Joins car races.
Bullied at school. Beautiful. Loves sports and science. Doormat-turned-badass.
🌻 Support Characters:⭐⭐
Liam. KC. Madoc. All these characters did no connection to me. I feel like there would be books with them as main characters so oops?
🌻 Writing Style:⭐⭐⭐
Easy to read female POV.
🌻 Character Development:⭐⭐⭐
Not so much. I feel like I disliked most of Tate’s choices.
Slow burn that definitely turned heated.
Revoleved around high school senior year.
Happy For Now that makes you hopeful and satisfied.
🌻 Page Turner:⭐⭐⭐
Not so much as the start but interest builds up.
🌻 Book Cover:⭐⭐⭐
Not a fan of the font. Oops.
☁FINAL VERDICT: 3.27/5 BULLIED STARS! ⭐⭐⭐☁
