“The best discoveries always happened to the people who weren’t looking for them.”

Okay. Personally, I love having road trips. With my current job, every few days, we go to a different town or city. Sometimes a town we visit takes us 12 to 14 hours driving. And I work with my dad. So, imagine how reading this would feel like.

Okay. This book, in my opinion, is a light with a heavy surface, amazing read. It’s light in a way that makes it so easy to read it. But heavy, in a way that makes you feel so many things.

Things I liked the most (at the top of my head):
* The playlists! I listened to all the songs.
* The journal layout + the photos. They make it all seem so real.
* The simple American facts. I’m from Manila with no idea whatsoever about what USA looks like, except from what my dad told me. (My dad travels a lot.)

I don’t tend to read books on road trips. I feel like they are draggy, too much narration or descriptions.. and roadtrips are experienced in real life and not just read.

But, okay. I was proven wrong.

I loved so much of this story. I cried a lot. I felt so much on the family focus parts of this. I really liked Amy and Roger. They were like two friends who let me join and take part in their journey. It was great.

The only thing I did not like was how romance was transitioned. I mean, based on the book cover and the title, you would feel like there would be a romance in there somewhere. And yes. There would be. I was one of those excited and giddily anticipating these two to get together. But the way it was written was a bit anticlimatic. I felt like the transition was kinda off and felt forced. I like them together. I can see their chemistry. But their “love” story could have unfolded a bit differently.. smooth and effortless, you know?

In totality, still a great read. Looking forward to other Morgan Matson reads. 🙂
