A Thousand Boy Kisses by Tillie Cole [11/57 * 2018]

A Thousand Boy KissesA Thousand Boy Kisses by Tillie Cole
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Review originally published on Goodreads – July 26, 2018.

“Remember, moonbeam hearts and sunshine smiles.”

I came into this book with no expectations. I don’t know why I have this tendency to randomly choose books with no judgment and not even reading blurbs.

So forgive me, I almost DNFed this due to the first few chapters. I love the story build up but the dialogue is a bit too much for me.

I love me some strong independent characters. And this book is about two very dependent/clingy/too much characters.

Maybe it’s because I don’t know how to love.
Maybe it’s because it’s been 6 years since I was last in a relationship.

Or maybe it’s because the dialogue is too cliche.

Inspite of this, I did not want to give up on the book. Even when the plot twist came.

Spoiler alert. This book is about the Big C. And we all hate the Big C. It means tears and heartache. It means so much pain.

And though at times, I hated how this story was told. Oh, how admire Poppy. She’s brave and strong and I do wish most angels diagnosed with The Big C would experience life or see it through Poppy’s eyes.

This is a bittersweet book. I can’t tell so much. Just that you have to prepare those tissues.

PS. Tillie Cole’s official playlist was mostly One Direction. I squealed. Help.

But before I saw that.. this particular One Direction songs were what spoke to me while reading this:
* Walking In The Wind
* If I Could Fly
* Love You Goodbye

“Because something so completely perfect and special is destined to fade. Eventually, it has to blow away into the wind.โ€

โ˜ THE CRITERIA โ˜

๐ŸŒป Blurb:โญโญโญ
Did not give away too much, but still a good teaser.
๐ŸŒป Hero:โญโญโญ
Handsome long haired Norwegian good-boy-turned-bad. Sensitive. A bit self-destructive. A bit too dependent.
๐ŸŒป Heroine:โญโญโญโญโญ
Beautiful, brave and strong. Optimistic to a fault.
๐ŸŒป Support Characters:โญโญโญ
Good friends and loving parents.
๐ŸŒป Writing Style:โญโญโญโญ
Tillie Cole’s writing can make you feel a whole lot of things. Sweet but borderline cliche.
๐ŸŒป Character Development:โญโญโญ
A little bit of a rollercoaster, this one.
๐ŸŒป Romance:โญโญโญโญ
Painfully bittersweet. A great love that can seem a bit unreal.
๐ŸŒป Pacing:โญโญโญโญ
Perfectly paced. Even the time jumps are rightfully placed.
๐ŸŒป Ending:โญโญโญโญโญ
Beautiful. Again, bittersweet. But it’s what the main characters deserved.
๐ŸŒป Page Turner:โญโญโญโญ
Yes, definitely.
๐ŸŒป Book Cover:โญโญโญโญ
Mason jar filled with hearts. That’s it.

โ˜FINAL VERDICT: โญโญโญโญ
3.8 rounded off to 4 moonbeam/sunshine stars โ˜
